Mustelid Control

Mustelid Control

Specialists in Mustelid Control within Aotearoa, New Zealand

Mustelids (weasel, ferret and stoat) were introduced to New Zealand in the 1870s and 1880s to control rabbits. However, all three have become pests in their own right. By far the worst, in terms of their predations on native species, are stoats, followed by ferrets. Weasels are thought to have been less successful in adapting to New Zealand conditions.

Mainland Vector have experience throughout the South Island of New Zealand laying stoat and rat lines.

This involves setting up bait station lines, baiting and removing the bait at set intervals. The company has also done extensive work in areas such as Eglington Valley removing Pindone and Cyanide pills from bait stations.

Ferret, Stoat and Weasel control is one of the most difficult trapping tasks due to the need for protection of other species in and around the location. Mainland Vector Contracting Ltd has a high yield pest success rate in this area.
